Toxicity Test of Plant Derived Molluscicides with Attractant Food Pellets against Snail, Lymnaea Acuminata
Authors
Abstract:
Use of molluscicides in the attractant food pellet (AFP) is an effective method of snail control. Different concentrations of these molluscicides viz. Azadirachta indica bark powder, Allium sativum bulb powder, Polianthes tuberosa bulb powder, Annona squamosa seed powder, their active components azadirachtin, allicin, hecogenin, acetogenin; herbal molluscicide pestoban and a synthetic molluscicide, snail kill in the attractant food pellets containing starch and agar were tested for molluscicidal activity for 144h against the snail, Lymnaea acuminata . Active components of all the plant derived molluscicides were more toxic to L. acuminata than crude forms. The stability of bait formulations was studied by storing the pellets up to 4 weeks. Storage of molluscicide baits caused reduction in toxicity compared to synthetic agent.

AIM Fascioliasis is an important helminth disease caused by Fasciola (F.) hepatica and F gigantica of Asia and Africa. This disease belongs to the plant-borne trematode zoonoses. Human infection has been reported in 51 different countries from 5 continents. One of the possible approaches to control this problem is to interrupt the life cycle of the parasitic trematodes by eliminating the snail....

The effect of Annona squamosa, Lawsonia inermis and their combination with other herbal molluscicides were studied on different enzyme activity in the nervous tissue of Lymnaea acuminata. Twenty-Four hour in vivo exposure to 40% and 80% of 24 h LC50 of plant derived molluscicides and their combination with other molluscicides such as Cedrus deodara, Azadirachta indica oil, Allium sativum, Polia...

The effect of sub-lethal doses (40% and 80% of LC(50)/24h) of plant derived molluscicides of singly, binary (1:1) and tertiary (1:1:1) combinations of the Rutin, Ellagic acid, Betulin and taraxerol with J. gossypifolia latex, leaf and stem bark powder extracts and their active component on the reproduction of freshwater snail Lymnaea acuminata have been studied. It was observed that the J. goss...

The effect of sub-lethal feeding of bait formulations containing molluscicidal component of Ferula asafoetida (ferulic acid, umbelliferone), Syzygium aromaticum (eugenol) and Carum carvi (limonene) on biochemical changes in the ovotestis of snail Lymnaea acuminata were studied. Bait formulations feeding to L. acuminata were studied in clear glass aquaria having diameter of 30 cm. Baits were pre...
